YARN.

Yarn..... it becomes an obsession. I have loved yarn since my mother in law introduced me to it. Before that I never had an interested in it what so ever.... maybe I should start at the beginning....

My grandma was a great person, she was so handy in crafts and such. She would always sew things for everybody, or knit or even crochet, but somehow all of that never reached my mom. Come to think of it, my mom still can't stand the sound of a sewing machine. So I grew up without being introduced to any of it. Sure my aunts did the occasional crafts with us, but it was never anything big.

But a few years ago, I met my boyfriend, and with that I met his family. And a strange bunch it was.... however I instantly fell in love with all of them. They were so different from mine. And early on I found out that my Mother-in-law is a fervent crocheter. I asked her if she could teach... why I still don't know, maybe it was to connect with her... and oh boy we did. She started me off with a single crochet rug with all kinds of colors. When it was finished I was hooked.... I started another single crochet rug and after that moved on to granny squares. In that period I started looking at yarn more often, and let me tell you I love it. I love yarn, there are so many different kinds and colors. There are so many different things you can make.... obviously I have moved on to harder projects. Using different kinds of yarn and learning to still read instructions better and better.
Just a couple of days ago I went to my favorite Yarn store here in town, and wow that wall with all the different kinds, it is so hard to choose from. I felt right at ease there. I missed the racks and racks of yarn they have at a Michaels or a Hobby Lobby, but now I was home. How strange can that be....
This evening I was talking to my mother-in-law, who always has some project going, and I think the first question I ask her every time is "so, what are you working on?"
Sometimes she will tell me, and a lot of times I get answers like I am not going to tell you, it is a surprise. I love surprises. Maybe this story isn't about yarn at all, or well maybe yarn is just part of it. But I will tell you this, I have an awesome mother-in-law, she allowed her oldest son to move across the world to be with me, and she doesn't hate me for it. I am a lucky person, I am being loved by not only my own family but also my boyfriends family and well I love them back.

I will try to put some of my work on here this weekend, it might be fun.... and definately an tribute to my very special mother-in-law....

  1. Warm fuzzies! I'm lucky too. My future "in-laws" love me and it's a great feeling.
