Memory lane.....

I was reading a blog just now, from a girl who is getting ready to move across the ocean to be with the man she loves. Which first of is awesome! To this day I am glad that Ike did the same thing for me, since I am not able to move to the USA to be with him due to family sicknesses.
I know how hard it is to pack the most important stuff for a move of that magnitude ( I did move to the USA in 2006, and moved back to Europe in 2008) You feel like you need everything in your room. I think I packed and unpacked about a thousand times.

In 2006 we were still allowed to travel across the pond with 2 bags ( now it is only 1, cheapo airlines) So 2 bags and a little it was. Since I was moving to the desert of NM, I was thinking about what I would really need clothwise ~well you need everything, the 2 years I lived there we had snow in the wintertime.....

Anyway back to the topic at at hand... packing..... my mom sent me home from the beach on several occations so I could get all my stuff together pack up what I wasn't going to use, donate and give away stuff that I wasn;t going to need anymore, etc. It was horrible, I don't think I did anything until well the very last day before my flight took off. That last day I was packing-unpacking-repacking-unpacking again-and finally closing the bags, figuring whatever I would forget I could buy when I got there  ( which I did and then some)
I left the house the next morning, never cleaning my room or anything, my poor mom had to do that all....

Two years later I moved back, and well I still have a couple of totes at Ikes parents.(we have been living here in Europe for about 3 years now)

The only thing that surprised me, is I was the first one of the two of us who moved back to Europe. Ike moved here 7 months later.... and seriously he only brought 2 bags, well 1 suitcase and 1 tote. Even worse, in the tote was some stuff that his mom put in there for me.....( 2 BAGS, guys need so much less then we women do)

This is not nearly as bad as all those people who move across the pond, and have to get rid of furniture as well. Luckily I never had that problem, I was able to store my stuff at my parents house. But today, if we were to move back to the USA, I would get one of those containers ( well that is what we call it here) and pack all my furniture in there and have it moved to the USA... it will be cheaper then having to buy everything all over again over there.....

  1. I'm trying to be optimistic about it! I'm using it as a chance to rid myself of all my old clothes that need to be retired anyways but never really had much of an excuse. My closet is due for a MAJOR rehaul anyways.

My fiance probably could pack his life in one suitcase... yet his room is full of old books and movies he wont get rid of. Need to find a way to motivate him! haha

  2. I'm starting the clean up process. I've got 40 years worth of crap that I need to toss, sell or give away, and then Heidi's stuff. I'm working on a timeline! Yes! Happy Happy news!! I miss you, we haven't talked in ages. Hope all is ok.
