4th of May

Today, here in the Netherlands, we remind ourselves that war costs lives. Its a tradition that started after World War 2. We started remembering those who past away while trying to give us our freedom back. We honored those who have fought for our freedom and survived. Now-a-days it is not only those who have fallen during WWII but also those who have falling during other wars, for there are not many who have actually lived through WWII as before. It has been 66 years. It is almost a lifetime when you think about it. The 4th of May; for the Dutch a time to stand still and think about all the wars that have been fought and are still being fought. Many people have lost their lives during these wars, to try and protect others, and give them freedom to express themselves. This after all is not something that is normal.

Tomorrow however, tomorrow is a different day. Tomorrow we celebrate freedom. The 5th of May, we celebrate being liberated from the Germans. We celebrate being Free again....

Freedom, an important, much taken for granted, and really when you think about not at all a normal as we might think, state of live. To those who live in freedom, enjoy it, because you never know when you might loose it, for those who aren't living in freedom my thoughts will be with you this evening.
